NINFA

Ninfa is an Italian-origin apricot variety. Its trees are moderately vigorous with a wide-spreading structure, and they are high-yielding with consistent productivity. Fruiting occurs on both mixed shoots and one-year-old branches. The fruits are medium-sized (around 50 g), round-shaped, and light yellow with faint red blushes or spots on the skin. The flesh is light yellow, moderately flavorful, and the pit is free (not attached to the flesh). The fruit is quite durable and resistant to cold, tolerating temperatures down to -25°C to -35°C without damage. In the Mediterranean region, harvest takes place in the third week of May. Thanks to its high and consistent yield, self-fertility, and good fruit quality, Ninfa is a valuable early-season apricot variety for both local consumption and commercial production.

ŞEKERPARE

Şekerpare is a native Turkish apricot variety valued for both fresh consumption and drying. Its trees are vigorous with a spreading growth habit. The fruits weigh about 25–30 g, with a flat stem cavity side, a distinct suture line, and a yellow-orange skin that develops a characteristic red blush on the cheeks. The flesh is yellowish-orange, juicy, sweet, and aromatic. Şekerpare is a freestone variety (the pit is medium-sized and long, and not attached to the flesh). Under Mediterranean conditions, it ripens in the second week of June. Known as the sweetest apricot variety in the world, Şekerpare starts with a Brix level of around 12 at the beginning of the season and can reach over 30 Brix as it matures. Its unique aroma, slight red blush on both sides, and small fruit size are its most distinctive features. In Turkey, all dried apricots are produced from the Şekerpare variety, making it the backbone of the country’s famous dried apricot industry.
